Hi, I'm Dr. Emily Turinas
I'm a licensed psychologist in Austin, and I work with women who are ready to do more than just manage symptoms—they want real insight and lasting change.

Maybe you're struggling with new motherhood, feeling stuck in your 20s or 30s, or repeating relationship patterns you can't seem to break. Whatever brings you here, I'm glad you found me.
I grew up in Austin and went to UT for both my PhD and master's in counseling psychology. I understand the unique pressures women and I've built my practice around creating a space where you can show up exactly as you are.

I became a therapist because I'm genuinely curious about people—how we become who we are, why we do what we do, and how we can create the lives we actually want. I love the work of helping someone connect the dots between their past, their patterns, and their present struggles. That moment when something clicks and you suddenly understand yourself differently? That's why I do this.

Personally, I'm a mom to two young kids and a sassy pup. I love trying new Austin restaurants (total foodie), traveling when I can, and finding time to craft—though let's be real, most of my "free time" these days involves dancing to frozen songs and negotiating with tiny humans. I know firsthand how hard it is to balance everything, how isolating motherhood can feel, and how much women are expected to just "have it together" while juggling a million things. Spoiler: none of us actually have it together, and that's okay.

I also know what it's like when your body doesn't do what you expect—I navigated pregnancy complications and NICU trauma with my second, which deepened my understanding of perinatal mental health in ways my training alone never could. Motherhood has taught me as much about resilience, identity, and transformation as my doctorate.

I work primarily with women in their 20s and 30s navigating:
Perinatal & Postpartum Mental Health
Pregnancy, birth trauma, postpartum anxiety and depression, NICU experiences, pregnancy loss, the overwhelming identity shift of new motherhood. I have advanced training through Postpartum Support International and understand this territory both professionally and personally.

Life Transitions & Young Adult Struggles
Quarter-life crisis, career uncertainty, post-grad overwhelm, feeling stuck or lost despite doing everything "right," failure to launch, building an adult life that feels like yours.

Relationship Patterns & Attachment
Anxious or avoidant attachment, choosing emotionally unavailable partners, repeating family-of-origin patterns, understanding how you learned to relate to others and developing healthier ways of connecting.
Anxiety, Depression & Personal Growth
Working through the underlying causes—not just managing symptoms—to create lasting change.

My Approach to Therapy
Depth, Not Just Surface Solutions
I work from a psychodynamic lens, which means we're not just addressing what you're feeling—we're understanding why. We'll explore how your past relationships shape your present patterns, how your experiences have influenced your sense of self, and how to move forward with clarity and intention.
This isn't about giving you a list of coping skills and sending you on your way (though we'll absolutely develop practical tools too). It's about helping you understand yourself at the core, so the changes you make actually stick.
What That Looks Like in Practice
I believe in tailoring therapy to you. While I'm trained in psychodynamic approaches, I also pull from CBT, DBT, CPT, and motivational interviewing when it's helpful. The method matters less than the connection and the results.

I work collaboratively. You're not a passive recipient of treatment—you're an active participant in your own growth. I'll ask questions, offer insights, and help you see patterns you might not notice on your own. But you're the expert on your own life.

I build real relationships with my clients. Therapy works best when you feel deeply understood. I want you to feel like you can be honest about what's really going on—the messy, confusing, imperfect reality. The therapy room is where you don't have to perform.
Let's Work Together
I'm not here to fix you. You're not broken. But I am here to help you understand yourself more deeply, break patterns that aren't serving you, and build a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.

I value depth over quick fixes. Real, lasting change takes time and self-understanding. I'm committed to going beyond surface-level solutions to help you create transformation that sticks.

I build strong therapeutic relationships. The connection between therapist and client is where the real work happens. I want you to feel truly understood—not just heard.

I get it, both professionally and personally. I've studied this work, I'm trained in it, and I've also lived through some of the struggles I help clients navigate. That combination of clinical expertise and personal understanding shapes how I show up for my clients.

Finding the right therapist is so important. I offer a free 15-minute consultation call where we can talk about what you're going through, what you're looking for, and whether my approach feels right for you. No pressure, no obligation—just a conversation to see if we click.
